Rapper Tablo appeared as XIA Junsu’s first-ever solo concert guest.
According to Junsu’s agency C-JeS Entertainment, “Junsu and Tablo shared the stage for the ‘2015 XIA 3rd Asia Tour Concert in Seoul,’ which was held at the Jamsil Indoor Stadium on March 8. Tablo, whose rap features on title track ‘Flower’ of Junsu’s third solo album, shared the stage with Junsu for a stellar collaboration that drew a loud applause.”
Immediately following the concert, Junsu thanked Tablo, “The poet of rap Tablo joined me on stage [tonight]. He is the first guest I’ve ever had at a solo concert, save for ballad and musical concerts. I felt this way when he featured on title track ‘Flower,’ but [Tablo] is truly the best rapper; I am so grateful for tonight’s performance.”
The concert, which was held from March 7 to 8 at Jamsil Indoor Stadium, drew 14,000 fans, and Junsu performed songs off brand new album “Flower” and previous solo albums, as well as a medley of OSTs that he’s participated in.
Meanwhile, Junsu made his solo comeback to much fanfare with a music video of epic proportions for title track “Flower.”

JYJ′s Kim Junsu Wraps Up Seoul Concert with Epik High′s Tablo as Guest Performer
Epik High’s Tablo joined JYJ’s Kim Junsu for his Seoul concert.
C-JeS Entertainment revealed on March 9, “Kim Junsu and Tablo performed on stage together for the 2015 Xia 3rd Asia Tour Concert in Seoul ‘Flower’ concert, which took place on March 8 at Jamsil Gymnasium. Tablo, who featured in Kim Junsu’s third solo album title song Flower presented a fantastic collaboration stage with Kim Junsu.”
Having participated in writing the rap and featuring in the song, Tablo and Kim Junsu’s collaboration stage was incomparable to any other. Once the surprise guest Tablo showed up on stage, the fans started shouting ‘Tablo’ in unison.
After performing Flower, Kim Junsu said, “The ‘poet of rapping,’ Tablo graced the stage today. He is the first guest to perform at my solo concert, apart from the ballad & musical concerts. Xia Junsu’s “Flower” is More than Incredible
Via seoulbeats
Xia Junsu’s “Flower” is More than Incredible Written by Morgan On March 8, 2015
Xia Junsu recently dropped his third solo album, “Flower”, on March 3rd, with the title track MV of the same name dropping with it. After stunning the world with “Tarantallegra” and reinvigorating it with “Incredible”, we were promised a shocking transformation on Junsu’s part for his next release.
“Flower” is like nothing we have seen before in K-pop; it is an incredibly detailed piece of art, with every aspect being well thought out and relevant. Filled with deep emotions, jaw dropping aesthetics and a symbolic message, this release is more than “Incredible”.
The song is an intricately woven piece; it uses elements of hip-hop, musical theatricality, orchestral pieces and opera to create an emotional ride that is not easily forgotten. Junsu, himself, composed and wrote the track, so it is easy to see where these influences have come from with his background in musical theatre. The song starts off with a eerie melody that pierces the silence like a chiming clock. From that point on more layers are added to the song, creating an ebb and flow of emotions; From Tablo’s introduction, to the operatic vocals, to the flourishes of the string instruments, this song has the ability to create an emotional experience — even without lyrics.
It is so epic it feels like it belongs in some sort of Lord of the Rings battle. If I hadn’t already seen the MV, I would be expecting Gandalf to come in to save the day on an eagle. So obviously, someone needs to get a note to Junsu, the MV needs more eagles.
Junsu’s impressive vocals completely slay this song, bringing emotional depth and direction to it. The desperation and deep-rooted scars, which may not be visible, become apparent through his singing. Junsu’s part tells the story of someone who has been kicked down and is trying to get back up, reaching for something that he can hold onto. The prominent ‘Come take my hand’ lyric plays a role in creating that desperation.
Come take my hand
Till the end
So I can live for you again
Please take my hand
Tablo’s rap breathes life into a piece that seemed to be sunk in depression and desperation. He brings to the song his own experiences of rising above his struggles and coming out on the other side. The emotional depth that Tablo creates in his lyrics has always astounded, and “Flower” delivers the listener nothing less than that.
Look at me, I’ve died but I opened my eyes again, I killed it
The darkness swallowed me but now I’m swallowing you
The excitement for the collaboration was fully justified with the result being better than imagined. These two seem to fit perfectly together, with both artists having come out of dark periods in their lives; Tablo was caught up in a modern day witch hunt and Junsu left one of the biggest groups and companies of the K-pop industry to an unknown fate. They’re experiences as musicians and people really shine through in this song.
There should be a rule that one should never watch a Junsu MV with expectations or assumptions, because they are guaranteed to be blown away. I thought we learned our lesson with Tarantellegra. The first time watching this MV it was easy to get lost within the imagery, whether it be the setting, costuming, props or Junsu’s lips; Let’s face it, that is as close as most of use are going to see Junsu’s lips. A lot of detail was put in to create Junsu a world of his own for this MV.
However, as easy as it is to get lost within the imagery, it isn’t as easy to completely understand it first watch. Rather than being based on a clear dramatic plot line, this MV relies on the use of symbolism to get the message across. Watching this video is a bit like solving a mystery, as you have to piece together all the symbolism presented to create the story. For that reason, the video seems very open to the viewer’s own interpretation. You only have to glance at the YouTube comments to see that.
From the beginning of the MV, we are introduced to Junsu as a king living a life of supposed luxury. However, it quickly becomes apparent that there is something very wrong with the world around him; The severed gold head thrown at his feet, the melted-down head being served in a tea cup, and the grotesque fish each symbolize different things but all three declare that something isn’t right with the world. Junsu, as the king, has become desensitized to the wrongness — shown by his unfocused gaze — and doesn’t realize until it is too late. Soon enough, he is poisoned and dying as an ‘innocent’ young girl laughs menacingly on the sideline.
This signals that a change needs to be made. That lifestyle of royalty, the people involved and himself are all killing him. This could be a representation of fame and wealth in general, but most likely it is a representation of his never-ending fight with SM entertainment.
It is easy to draw comparisons between this MV and the ongoing battle JYJ has had with SM entertainment in the years after they left. The little girl could be a representation of SM Entertainment that seems innocent but really has bad intentions. Whether or not you believe that is your opinion, but you must admit it leads to good production material.
From the death of the king, we are introduced to three different types of Junsu; They are represented at the head of three dancing troops as a king, a peasant and a god. These three versions of Junsu, could be projections of what the possible outcomes of his struggle could be and who he will become because of it.
The king represents who he was, the god represents his dreams, the peasant represents his fears; One is stagnant, another loses everything and the other wins everything. The climax of the MV occurs when the video cuts between the three versions of Junsu dancing, as if he is warring between them. However, the last scene, where we see Junsu become a knight, is the pivitol conclusion to that entire MV and his struggle. Junsu is no longer a king, a peasant or a god, those titles mean nothing anymore, he’s a fighter.
This MV seems to not only reflect his struggle with the outside world but also his struggle with himself. Junsu is constantly reinventing himself, from his time as a DBSK member, a member of JYJ, a musical actor, to becoming a soloist. He draws inspiration from his own experiences to become, what I consider, a true artist. As he has grown as a person his music has too, presenting an authentic reflection of himself to the world.
“Flower” was everything, if not more, than what was promised. Sadly, this review would’ve turned out to be too long if all the symbolism in this MV was addressed. However, that fact is a testament to the amount of detail that went into the creation of this release. It’s practically top marks from me, but what would you give it? And what was your take on the story of the MV?

[HanCinema's Drama Review] "Spy - Drama" Episode 15
2015/03/06
As the shootout indicates, the time for negotiation is over. Seon-woo being, of course, the doof that he is, attempts to further negotiate anyway, and the results are predictably bad. Right to the end both he and Hye-rim are determined to make sacrifices for each other, and right to the end Gi-cheol takes advantage of this fact to make sure all his enemies are more focused on ethical discussion than they are the actual long-term goal.
But then, that conflict has been the main problem for the entirity of "Spy - Drama". Hye-rim, and later on Seon-woo, have consistently failed to realize that protecting their family and protecting the country are not, in fact, mutually exclusive goals. The only reason the situation has gotten this bad in the first place is because the good guys have been consistently incapable of getting their act together. So the dramatic tension here is whether they can win in the end, even given the colossal disadvantages.
As it turns out, though, Gi-cheol has a pretty big disadvantage too. To date he's only ever faced one serious threat in the course of this mission, and that was dispatched through the power of teamwork. The question subtly but unmistakably comes up here- why exactly are all the henchmen hanging out with Gi-cheol? Yes, obviously there's the promise of all the money. But if that's the actual goal, then why does Gi-cheol insist on putting so much effort into maintaining custody of Hye-rim?
Gi-cheol refuses to admit that his emotional attachment is a liability- just the same as with every other character in this drama. Except Seon-woo. The outcome of the armed confrontation would have been enough to sideline the younger spy, but by insisting on making it personal, Gi-cheol ends up putting everyone at risk. In the end it seems like Gi-cheol is poised to be hoist by his own petard- a fitting irony given that Hye-rim increasingly seems to be the only reason he went to all this trouble in the first place.
The simplicity of the action and the true, transparent nature of the character motivations here unveil "Spy - Drama" as being the core concept of an espionage thriller- all that minor detail nitpicking, all for the sake of one final outcome that could be undone at any minute by any possible mistake. It's an interesting enough reversal actually- Gi-cheol may be the best at this game, but he's outnumbered and increasingly running out of cards.

[HanCinema's Drama Review] "Spy - Drama" Episode 16 Final
2015/03/06
The crescendo of the conflict is, like the previous episode, a fairly easy to understand affair. The characters here fight to hold on to any possible advantage they can find at any given moment. When the first stage of Gi-cheol's plan goes wrong, it takes quite a bit of quick-shooting and hot-headed negotiation before the scene finally ends with one character taking a prop from a previous scene out of nowhere. Unfortunately for Gi-cheol, keeping track of everything that's going on at once is pretty hard.
It makes for a somewhat bittersweet climax. Good prevails, not so much because they actually know what they're doing, but because Gi-cheol finally makes a tactical mistake. Seon-woo is still largely unchanged as a character from the first episode. He's competent to be sure, but the younger spy chiefly prioritizes sentimentality. Without hesitation, Seon-woo plays the role of good guy here even as he knows every minute he wastes is another minute that his mother could be finished.
That's certainly one way to manage a character arc, albeit a strange one. No character growth- everyone is just thrust into the drama and left to try and claw their way out through the strength of their own grit. Don't expect any surprises too big from the epilogue- well, I guess I was kind of surprised about what ended up happening to Yoon-jin. Although maybe that was just a matter of her realizing that there's not really that much contradiction about being a spy and a good person after all.
It seems a little light, really, considering all the effort that's gone into "Spy - Drama". I have to confess that thinking back on the series, I have trouble remembering a lot of the finer plot points. But then any good spy thriller isn't really about the minutae- it's about being able to maintain a tense, exciting atmosphere on the strength of a script consistently well-written enough that we don't bother questioning the inconsistencies.
And there really aren't any inconsistencies in "Spy - Drama". That may not seem like huge praise, but this is a very easy thing to get wrong in a genre that necessitates the audience always keep guessing. Sometimes the drama was slow, sometimes it was melodramatic, and other times it actually did manage to feel like a more mainstream production. In any case, we definitely went out with a loud, satisfying bang here. So on that count, this was a ride well worth taking.

Attention has been gathering on JYJ’s activities since Kim Jae Joong’s enlistment date has been confirmed.
On March 4, C-JeS Entertainment made an announcement on Kim Jae Joong enlisting in the army on March 31.

review: Spy Episode 13
Ya know, I thought Spy would be all about Mom being ultra badass and using all sorts of vintage espionage tactics to bring down the baddies. But in truth, Mom is really just Mom here, someone who is ready to sacrifice herself for her family. We can be thankful that her Sonny Boy is getting smarter though in the broad sense, I do kinda wish Spy is more intelligent and mysterious all around.
SW barges into WS’s office, with YJ in tow. He aims his gun at KC – though by now we should he doesn’t really shoot most of the time. But SW is caught yet again between a rock and hard place: killing KC wouldn’t secure Mom’s release though he will get the hard disc. KC compromises with a deal: if SW and WS can break the code within a day, he’ll set Mom free.

review: Spy Episode 14
Wouldn’t it be awesome of the entire Kim family was a dysfunctional unit of spies? That would certainly lift tired spirits up as everyone, with the exception of the hardworking Sun Woo, won’t be just getting carted from one “safe” place to another. As much as I genuinely enjoy the action scenes in Spy, I’m annoyed that we’ve been only chasing the damnable hard disc since Day One and nothing else.
WS hands the hard disc to YJ as NIS agents threaten to break down the door – he trusts her to pass it to SW. Hopefully, this would save the entire Kim family. On the other hand, SW is brokering a deal with JS – if he gives the disc to his chief, chief would ensure his family will remain safe and free of North Korean spy suspicion. That is, he expects JS to draft an official document stating NIS asked his parents to spy for them. EH? Whatever. JS sneers that he won’t be stamping his approval on any requests until SW produces the hard disc.

To be a good action hero for a drama or film, you have to have the talent (obviously) and the look. A majority of idols may want to cross over into acting, but who among them has the handsome face, the tough attitude, and them chiseled abs and muscles, to make the perfect action hero?
Here are our guesses. Take a look!

6. X Song
7. License to Love
8. Musical in Life
9. Love You More
10. F.I.P
11. Hello Hello
12. I Hate That Word
13. Love Breath
Junsu, better known as XIA of JYJ, has just dropped his third solo release. Already known for his singer-songwriter abilities, he had a hand in composing and writing most of the songs on the album. The buzz around the album indicates it encompasses a variety of styles from urban dance to hip hop to ballads.
The album starts off leisurely with "Reach," a rather standard ballad with, unfortunately, standard lyrics. The faux orchestra, high notes, extended vocal sustains, a format that hasn't changed much since the '70s. There was also some hints of the late balladeer Whitney Houston, which didn't endear the song to me any.
"Butterfly (Reborn)" runs in a similar vein to the first track. Junsu does knock it out of the park vocally on the first two tracks, twisting his voice to a vibrato and almost wrenching a tear out with the sincere pain in his voice. Even though it's not my thing at all, I can at least praise what he did right.
"Flower" is an art-house banger with bombastic drums. It starts out with suspense and minimalism, gradually acquiring momentum as it approaches epic with belted bridges and choruses. This is an awesome showcase for Junsu's voice, as powerful as I've ever heard it. There's even some vocal variation with choruses sung by deep-lunged males and females alike, adding to its epic feel and giving it an operatic groove. It's a seriously impressive piece, and I haven't ever heard its like in K-pop. Ever.
The disc slows down once more with "My Night." It's a minimalist piece, sung around a piano and acoustic guitar, not played at the same time. It kind of loses its way and picks up with the guitar, the piano feeling a bit lazy and meandering. The nice thing is Junsu's vocals are clearer here and not buried in overproduction.
"Out Of Control" has a funky groove, and it's almost got a start-stop melody reminiscent of f(x), even more because the vocals are sung in a pretty high pitch. Entirely driven by a high-pitched sinuous synth riff, the only bad part of it is Yang Dong Geun. I've groused about his delivery before, and he does the same thing here: he mumbles. Oh well, it's still better than what I've heard on 'Unpretty Rapstar.'
The next track, "X Song," is even funkier. It has a sweet pace that never lets up and the melody is fairly spare, which works in its favor and brings out the bass nicely. Dok2 keeps the song moving with his vocals interspersed here and there 'til his main part when his rap kills.
"License to Love" is a mid-tempo tune that combines Junsu's earnest vocals with a fairly good beat and enough variation, mixing it up where it could have gotten standard. A nice soft pop track with a snappy melody.
The oddball "Musical in Life" is patterned after show tunes with a jazzy feel that evokes Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra. Junsu croons along to a mellow horn and sounds for all the world like a lounge singer. And I think that was the intent. It's one of the most successful retro attempts I've heard to date.
"Love You More" is a guitar-driven mid-tempo ballad. I like it as a chugging beat and his fervent, heartfelt vocals help the feel nicely. It's sweetly sung and one more example of a ballad done right.
"F.L.P." cranks up the beat. The title is presumably an acronym for the chorus "feels like paradise." It's a naughty little tune, and XIA morphs his voice to fit the bad boy attitude of this song. I love the extra vocals in here; the deep-voiced "heys" and "whoooaas" help this track pop. This song is sleek and tight, danceable and beat-laden.
"Hello Hello" has a smooth clarinet and is a soft jazz number. His capable croons are very well done here, and it's good enough to drop into a smooth jazz station and you wouldn't know the difference. A nice departure from K-Pop here.
"I Hate That Word" starts out well, but about halfway through, they drown his voice in gusty orchestral strings that threaten to overwhelm his vocals. He's got a decent enough voice where he doesn't need anything extra. "Hello Hello" got it right. As to the word he hates? I can guess at "breakup," since the rough translation gave me a fail in that area (I don't think "Alaska" is it).
Yeah, that's how I felt looking at the translation
"Love Breath" is a soothing ballad, a nice closer to the album. It's got sort of a lullaby feel to it, something sung to put you to sleep, and I'm hoping that was the intent. Junsu's expressive voice shines here.
This is a pretty nice piece of pop. And the press was right -- there are a variety of styles on this album, so many it's a bit difficult to pin down to any one genre. Don't be fooled by my sarcasm and nitpicking; it's a pretty solid album and a worthy addition to any Junsu fan's collection.
You can sum up the MV in one word: amazing. I've raved about the track, but I can't say enough good things about the video.
Apparently the director was not blind to the epic feel of the tune as we have a tyrannical ruler who lives in an opulent palace vs. the mutants who live outside in a blasted wasteland like animals. The ruler is dispatched when a cyborg head is melted down and he drinks the molten metal and consumed from within by fire.
The opulence of the costumes and the set design is better than I can describe it. XIA plays many parts here, which I like. A simple change of hair and clothes (and maybe a wig) is enough to convince one of multiple characters. The palace sits alone on a dark mountain, the one piece of color in that volcano-grey waste. It almost reminds one of Mount Olympus except for the whole mutant-cyborg thing.
The dancing is well done too. The dancers are perfectly in sync, and the moves look sufficiently challenging. Whatever the people involved intended, it's a virtual feast for the eyes.

“XIA has released his third album after a one year and eight month hiatus,” revealed a statement from C-JeS Entertainment posted in an article by OSEN on Tuesday. “After its release, it ranked first on the online sites as well.”
This album features a style of music that Junsu has never shown before. Unlike his usual ballad style songs, he has incorporated a bit of urban pop dance, hip-hop and more upbeat sounds.
He also released his title song, “Flower” music video recently and revealed a charismatic and manly image.
