Kim Jaejoong expressed his feeling on their performance at IAG Opening Ceremony during the official press conference of 2014 JYJ Asia Tour Concert in Shanghai, THE RETURN OF THE KING held at 6:50 PM on the 20th. He said, "It felt really special."

He continued, "I believe it has been 4 years since we as JYJ appeared on land-based airwaves; we came our for 2 seconds during President Park's inauguration ceremony. We appeared on TV 2 times as JYJ."

"We did have some worries because our performance was not our own concert but the opening ceremony of IAG. What if we only come out for just 2 seconds again?"

Kim Jaejoong added, "Fortunately, the cameramen captured us for a long time. I feel like we came out for TV for real in a very long time. I was so excited and had so much fun. A lot of people contacted me and congratulated me after the performance."

[FULL TRANS] JYJ #김재중 "I used to worry about my limitations during my former group days... It is different now

Idol group JYJ's member Kim Jaejoong revealed his impressions as he continues with group activity

Kim Jaejoong pondered for a minute when he got a question, "How do you feel about your 5-year long group activity as JYJ?" at the pre-concert press conference for JYJ Asia Tour Concert the Return of the King held at Mercedes Benz Arena in Shanghai, China on the 20th. He answered, "I used to worry about my limitations during my former group days(TVXQ). It is different now. "I thought about 'what should I show them next?' and 'What more should I do?' All the time. Now I know that those were useless worries. There is no limit even if I sing the same song at concerts over and over."
He means that he can show totally different sides of him even if he sings the same song repeatedly during the tour. He added, "I blamed myself for the past attitude at times. I feel more grateful toward the members as we continue the group activities, and care for them more. I'm grateful for everything."

JYJ continue their concert the Return of the King on the 25th at the Challenge Hall in Bangkok, Thailand.

9 nominations for Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film finalized in Jan 2015:5 final & 4 shortlisted entries

[INFO] 140919 KOFIC submits ‘Haemoo’/’Sea Fog’ as entry into 87th Academy Awards for ‘Best Foreign Language Film’ Category

KOFIC submitted ‘Haemoo’/’Sea Fog’ as an entry into the 87th Academy Awards for ‘Best Foreign Language Film’ category
KOFIC panel gave high points for Haemoo on its positive reception at the Gala Presentation at TIFF 2014 and the fact that it’s based on true story (via @inheaven_wJYJ)

JYJ3’s Note: The 87th Academy Awards nominees list will probably be released on January 2015, Hopefully “Sea Fog/ Haemoo” get in the top 5. Which means we might have Yoochun in the red carpet of the Oscars 2015 ^^

The result of the selection from South Korean film entries for the Foreign Film category of the 87th Academy Awards

We offer our gratitude at each film production that was supported in the evaluation of the selection from South Korean film entries for the Foreign Film category of the 87th Academy Awards, and are announcing the result of the selection as follows.

1. Film selection: <Sea Fog> (director: Shim Sung-bo, production company: Haemoo Co., Ltd)

2. General review of the evaluation

Commentary on the selection from South Korean film entries for the 2014 Academy Awards

The pieces of works –entered for the selection of the nominated film for the Foreign Film category of Academy Awards– were colorful movies, respectively. It was not easy to choose a work that was a choice among the 10 choices entered as the movie –by representative investment distribution companies domestically– that will represent South Korea.

Among them, the interests of the examiners collected approximately 4~5 choices that were hit movies. <Sea Fog>, <A Hard Day>, <A Girl at My Door>, and <Han Gong-ju> were the movies recommended as well-made piece of works by the examiners to potentially be awarded. [...]

However, the piece of work finally selected by the examiners was <Sea Fog>. It was well-received by local audiences who were invited to the Gala Presentation in the Toronto International Film Festival that is also known as the election for the Academy Awards; and in addition, the produced movie –that was inspired by a true story– got big marks in points that may play as major factors in grabbing Academy members’ attentions.

South Korean films so far have not made it even in the reserved nominees for 9 choices, far from a nominee for the 5 choices for an Oscar in the Foreign Film category. Although sweeping leading European film festivals, like the Cannes, Venice, and Berlin [Film Festivals]; how come we never had only an Oscar, for some reason. Considering such a question, we tried to choose a movie that can appeal to the Academy members, as the nominated film; rather than pick according to each personal preference and expertise of domestic examiners.

Lastly, we hope for policy consideration and further active support toward the nomination, as well as a potential winner, for an Oscar in the Foreign Film category.

All of the examiners to the South Korean film entries for the Foreign Film category of the 2015 Academy awards ceremony

[OTHER NEWS] 140917 ‘Sea Fog’ selected as opening film at 2014 Korean Film Festival in Paris

 photo 20140901151656911687.jpg

Movies ‘Roaring Currents’, ‘Sea Fog’, and ‘The Divine Move’ are to be screened at the 9th Korean Film Festival in Paris.

The 9th Korean Film Festival in Paris has revealed three major films for the time being. ‘Sea Fog’ will be the opening film, ‘The Divine Move’ will be the closing film, and ‘Roaring Currents’ will be for the special screening; shown next month at Publicis Cinemas located in Champs-Élysées for 8 days, from October 28th to November 4th.

Contending with ‘Roaring Currents’ this summer, another sea-based masterpiece ‘Sea Fog’ was selected as the opening film. As the thriller that is produced by Director Bong Joon-ho and directed by Director Shim Sung-bo, who wrote the script to ‘Memories of Murder’(2003) –which they worked together on 10 years ago–, for the first time; ‘Sea Fog’ is about six crew members of ‘Jeonjinho’ who become the focus on the ship; and the story that unfolds while they help Korean-Chinese stowaways in order to protect the vessel with their lives. It attracted attention as JYJ member Park Yoochun’s first debut film, and with Moon Sung-geun, Kim Yoon-seok and other actors’ solid acting abilities.

JYJ to take part in local fest

Sept 17,2014

JYJ
K-pop trio JYJ will hold a concert as part of a local festival next month in Seoul, the band’s agency, C-JeS Entertainment, said yesterday.

The concert will take place on Oct. 5 at Yeongdong-daero, the 14-lane boulevard next to Coex mall in southeastern Seoul.

JYJ will perform for two hours at the Gangnam Hanryu Festival.

The group released their newest album in July, titled “Just Us,” which sold close to 17,000 copies during its first week. Critics were surprised to find that the album, launched in Korea, attracted popularity in Japan, when it ranked No. 1 on Tower Records’ music chart there and No. 2 on Oricon.

JYJ is currently on their Asia tour, “The Return of the King,” in countries such as China, Vietnam and Taiwan.

JYJ
Members do not contact each other in private, leaving group chat one by one.

Korean group JYJ was caught in an embarrassing situation with the Taiwanese media a few days earlier [2014.09.11], when the arrangement for media photo shoots evoked dispute. However, when they were on MTV’s show ‘I Love Idols’, they showed their amicability by answering every question. When discussing about clothing and how they dress themselves, Kim Junsu and Kim JaeJoong revealed that they used to get clothes to go with the styles they had in their albums but now they go for comfort. Park Yuchun, on the other hand, has a thing for sandals. He said, ‘I’m fine as long as I have sandals on. I don’t like to stand in front of the shoe cabinet for a long time. I’m fine as long as I have something on that I can go out at once. So even in winter, when I wear scarves and coats, I still wear sandals out.’

Members have individual activities in different fields. Will they contact each other in private? Unexpectedly, Park Yuchun and Kim JaeJoong stood with each other on this issue. They both disclosed that Kim Junsu has been too busy to pay attention to them. Park Yuchun said, ‘I really want to stay in contact with Junsu. I really think highly of him.’ Kim JaeJoong also said, ‘I also really want Junsu to contact me.’ Kim Junsu strike back by saying, ‘You can always contact me.’ Kim JaeJoong once invited the members to create a group chat on instant messaging app and Park Yuchun revealed that Kim Junsu was the first to leave the group chat, ‘JaeJoong then left too, leaving me there.’

As to who is the most fun among them three? Kim Junsu pointed towards Kim JaeJoong, ‘He’s the funniest among our members.’ Kim JaeJoong replied, ‘I’m the kind of person who tried hard to make fun but Yuchun is effortlessly funny.’

Fans Open Up Another JYJ Park Yoo Chun Library

2014.09.16 11:25 Newsen Lee So Dam Translation Credit : Grace Danbi Hong

Fans of JYJ′s Park Yoo Chun have opened up a second library.

In celebration of the fourth year of Park Yoo Chun′s fan community, ′Blessing Yu Chun,′ fans gathered together to participate in this good deed.

Established in September of 2010, ′Blessing Yu Chun,′ a fan community consisting of fans in their 30s, has been continuously volunteering and doing good works to support its star.

Four years ago, the fan community began by donating 10,000,000 won to Park Hyun Bin, a burned victim, for surgery, before continuing with helping children suffering from cancer, low income families by providing food and heating bills, child community centers with free lunch fees, the elderly by donating brisquette coals and more.

In 2013, the members of ′Blessing Yu Chun′ donated 5,000,000 won to children of multicultural families in Sinan, as well as created the ′1st Park Yoo Chun Library′ with 8,800 books.

Fans Open Up Another JYJ Park Yoo Chun Library

Without fail, in time for its fourth anniversary, the members donated 10,000 won and 6,600 books in Heuksando of the Sinan area to create the ′2nd Park Yoo Chul Library." The library will be used diversely in Heuksando.

The library will be used as a place to read books, study, and even a home theater with a beam projector for the children, who are growing up without movie theaters.

For the past four years, ′Blessing Yu Chun′ members have donated about 150 million won to help the needy. Using their love for a star to do good, the members have become the model example of fan culture. More than anything, the group has constantly interest and relationships with the people they′ve once worked with, continuing good deeds throughout.

Meanwhile, Park Yoo Chun is currently on the 2014 JYJ Asia Tour ′The Return of the King and will hold the seventh concert on the tour on September 20 in Shanghai.

JYJ. (C-JES Entertainment)
K-pop boy band JYJ will hold a free concert on a major street in downtown Seoul on Oct. 5, the group’s agency said Monday.

The concert is part of the upcoming “2014 Gangnam Festival,” designed to promote hallyu, the overseas Korean pop culture boom, Gangnam-gu Office said.

It will take place on Yeongdong Road in front of the Korea Electric Power Corp. headquarters in Samseong-dong. Over 33,000 fans are expected to turn up, turning the area into a giant outdoor concert venue.

The idol group is currently on a concert tour of Asia, following the release of its second studio album, “Just Us,” on July 29.

This year’s “Gangnam Festival,” which involves various cultural events ranging from hallyu-themed concerts and an international marathon to a food fair, runs from Oct. 2-5, the office said. K-pop stars such as Rain, Girls’ Generation, Super Junior and TVXQ have appeared in previous festivals.

HaeMoo Reviews/Reactions from the recently concluded TIFF...

Haemoo - 9/10

A fishing boat crew on its last legs are forced to take up a human smuggling job. Absolutely fantastic, my favorite film of TIFF. The intensity throughout the entire film is incredibly well-done as is the portrayal of the descents of all the characters. I was iffy on a romantic subplot that is introduced at the beginning of the film but it becomes part of the foundation that holds the entire film up. Once the second act of the film starts up, it never really slows down. This film is packed with incredibly uncomfortable but powerful scenes and there were noticeable gasps in my audience throughout most of the final two acts of the film. The camera is shaky, the score is great, the scenes look beautiful. I loved, loved, loved, loved this movie. My only complaint is the ending which I thought could’ve been cut out entirely but it didn’t really hurt the film much.

http://t.co/9QJlqyTuwG

Haemoo was absolutely fantastic. My favourite of the festival. Intense all the way through. South Korea - keep doing it right.

Haemoo was brilliant, a fishing tale u don't want 2 miss!

Love how one of my favorites of the fest I see second to last. Love me some Haemoo!

was a tense South Korean thriller, like Reservoir Dogs on a fishing boat w/ other humans as the loot. Loved it

Haemoo, Equalizer and Before We Go are three distinct movies that will break your heart, scare you or make you smile

Well, 10 days and 30 films later, is sadly over. My top 5: 1) It Follows 2) Haemoo 3) '71 4) Alleluia 5) The Keeping Room

Finally done with . My 5 favourite films I saw were: 1) A Pigeon Sat on a Branch 2) Force Majeure 3) Mommy 4) Nightcrawler 5) Haemoo

Final Reviews: The Crow’s Egg, Big Game, Men, Women & Children, 99 Homes and Haemoo

Haemoo was not what I expected. Definitely worth a watch.

Haemoo, Equalizer and Before We Go are three distinct movies that will break your heart, scare you or make you smile

may be difficult to watch but it is also impossible to look away. Beauty, grandeur and terror.

TOP 5 of : 5. Haemoo 8.3/10 4. Wild 8.5/10 3. Mommy/tied with/Men Women and Children 8.9/10 2. A Hard Day 9.2/10 1. Whiplash 9.4/10

Haemoo

TIFF 2014 Review

[Lewis Pictures; 2014] Director: Shim Sung-Bo
Runtime: 111 minutes

Written by , September 15, 2014 at 10:15 am

Haemoo is an effective moral thriller that immediately mirrors the best work of its co-writer and producer Bong Joon-ho. What starts as slow and straight-forward goes south quickly, raising the stakes drastically as difficult decisions are made — first for profit, and secondly for survival. Opening with a near-fatal, yet tone-setting accident on a fishing boat, Kang (Kim Yoon-seok) is a captain in a very difficult position. After a series of bad luck and poor financial decisions he finds himself over extended, unable to secure a bank loan to sail the ship as a legitimate cargo operation. Turning to the mob, Kang quickly finds himself in a moral dilemma: rather than leave his crew high and dry he reluctantly agrees to smuggle a group of Koreans leaving China with the promise of asylum in South Korea.

Treating his new occupants like cargo leads to inherent conflicts, including the most disturbing strand of the story when a freon leak provides disastrous consequences. At the heart of the moral delema is our hero Dong-sik (Park Yu-chun), a young sailor learning the ropes. He’s fallen for a pretty young immigrant Hong-mae (Han Ye-ri) and has already landed on the boss’ radar. At port he’s told to go get a room because doing their business on the boat is considered bad luck. Foreshadowing, check.

Mirroring Bong Joon-ho’s latest feature Snowpiercer, Haemoo manages to be an effective thriller as well as a socially conscious heritage film. Set in 1998 amongst an IMF crisis fueling the need for cheap labor, it is ripe for additional commentary. Directed by first-time filmmaker (and Bong collaborator, having co-written Memories of Murder) Shim Sung-bo, the thriller elements simply deliver. What starts as an atmospheric maritime drama commenting on social class amongst the seaman (and their cargo) grows ugly. When their cargo expires, the crew is commanded to embark on the ugly business of disposing bodies and possessions. Along the way there are tense moments, disagreements and discussions, while all the while we genuinely care about Dong-sik and Hong-mae as innocent bystanders.
Both atmospheric (its title in English is translated to Sea Fog) and claustrophobic, the thriller is expertly lensed by cinematographer Hong Kyung-pyo (Mother, Snowpiercer) and tensely paced by editors Kim Sang-bum and Kim Jae-bum. The influence of Bong is apparent throughout the film, yet Shim’s direction is top notch and a text book example of misdirection. While the film’s first act never quite lets on just how horrific things will get as the captain (and crew) go down with the ship, Shim’s direction grows more confident as he expertly delivers genre thrills and moral dilemmas. While it flounders a bit early on, Haemoo evolves into an exceptional thriller while Park and Han create memorable characters going above and beyond their role: they think, feel and fight back.
