JYJ’s Junsu Shows Support for His Cousin Kim Tae Ha’s Efforts on “Produce 101″

JYJ’s Junsu Shows Support for His Cousin Kim Tae Ha’s Efforts on “Produce 101″

On February 20, JYJ‘s Junsu posted a message of support on his personal Twitter to his cousin Kim Tae Ha, who is currently a contestant in Mnet‘s “Produce 101.”

He writes, “I remember, when you were really young, you told me that you wanted to become a singer after watching ‘oppa’s’ stage. Actually, I was happy, but also really worried, knowing how hard this path is. When I see you, a child who only seemed like she would dance well, but also knows how to sing so well now, I think about how much effort you must have put in,” expressing his proud feelings.

He doesn’t forget to add words of encouragement as well. He gives reliable advice, adding, “I’m proud when I see you confidently making it to the next stage. Of course, this is just the beginning, so be strong and fighting! Even if you get disqualified halfway, this experience will become a huge lesson to you, who will also have matured throughout, and will also give you confidence~ Tae Ha-ya~ Be strong! Fighting.”

Junsu’s cousin Kim Tae Ha is a Starship Entertainment trainee, and recently moved on to the next round on “Produce 101,” during the February 19 broadcast, after placing 33rd.

[TRANS] 150220 Direct Interview with Producer of JYJ Jaejoong’s Latest Album

Direct hit with Music Producer Duo “Ye-Yo!” !

JYJ Jaejoong’s latest solo album “NO.X” released on 12th February, is out of stock in Korea’s CD shop 2 days after release, on the day of the release in iTunes Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore etc., in a total of 7 countries, acquired the 1st place in combined chart and is currently a heated topic.
This time, KLG (T/N: Korea Love Girls; the web magazine site where this interview is originally posted) succeeded in interviewing Korea’s music producer duo  “Ye-Yo!” who worked on the lead track “Love you more”. We were able to hear the episode that the production [of the song] occurred just before [Jaejoong’s] military enlistment.

–Reaction of “NO.X” is amazing right.

Ye-Yo! (below: Y): “We are happy that it is that way. I with Taewan composed and arranged ‘Love you more’.”

–Please tell the story that led to your participation in it’s produce.

Y: “We have composed popular songs and other more music with Taewan since before, who we co produced (T/N: love you more) with. Amongst them, Jaejoong’s associated agency C-Jes Entertainment contacted us, that they wanted a demo from Taewan and us, and we composed ‘Love you more’. 3 years since the song was completed, 2 years since the song’s recording was decided, had passed so we also did not know that it would become the title song till just before the release. We are very grateful to Jaejoong.

— When did the recording take place?

Y: “It was in January 2015. Because he is really good at singing, the recording was finished in one day. Working with Jaejoong was also enjoyable but working with the musicians was very fun.”

— Please tell us your impression of Jaejoong.

Y: “He is a bright person. Since he is person who has been doing singing activities for a long time, even if we do not give any instructions, he understanding the points of the song, sang it. During recording it was about the same as not having a need to give advice. I heard it later though that since the moment Jaejoong accepted the demo, he took a liking to ‘Love you more’, it seems he kept on practicing while listening to it.”

— Enlisted on 31st March. It seems he was working on the album till the last minute?

Y: “It is like that. I heard from the production company just before the album release that he shot the music video of ‘Love you more’, 10 days before enlisting.”
Hologram concert, “2016 Kim Jae Joong 2nd Album Hologram real live Concert in Japan” was held just before the album release, on this month’s 9th and 10th at Tokyo, Yoyogi National Gymnasium.  ‘It was like he was really there’ such happy voices of fans who came to the venue appeared one after the other. Jaejoong, who continues to think about his fans even when enlisted, his feelings were conveyed.

“Love you more” MV

South Korea’s popular music producer duo composed of OK and Jinho. Hiphop, ballad, dance, classic etc., cover a broad field. Representative song is Hyorin’s (SISTAR) ‘Massage’, Niel’s (TEENTOP) ‘Call me’, B.A.P’s ‘Take you there’ etc. Other than these, sponsored many singer’s music and are gathering attention as an up and coming producer who create new syndrome.

[NEWS] 160219 3rd eDaily Culture Awards: Musical ‘Death Note’ seized top prize in Musical category …Kim Junsu “Will repay you with a better work”

‘Death Note’ was awarded the top prize in the Musical category at the ‘3rd eDaily Culture Awards’ award ceremony and Gala Concert, held at the Haeorum Theater of the National Theater in Jangchung-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul on the 19th. Embarking as the top prize winner’s representative, group JYJ member and musical actor Kim Junsu stated his thoughts, like this, “I am accepting this award with praise and encouragement. I promise that I shall go forward in creating a better work in the future ahead”. Kim Junsu received favorable reviews, reborn as a convincing character when he undertook the role of the genius detective L in ‘Death Note’.
Kim Junsu began to speak with, “I would like convey words of thanks on behalf of the performance cast and production crew of 100 people”. Continuing, he also said, “‘Death Note’ had its first cultivation in Korea when it hit the stage last summer,; and I am grateful that this award has more meaning, as much as it was C-JeS Culture’s first debut work,” and, “I am thankful to Baek Chang-joo who had helped the work go up, in the one word that I only want to do it, and to have been directed by Japan’s Kuriyama Tamiya who undertook the directing of its Korean version”.
Adding, he completed his thoughts, “Teamwork between the actors was important to proceed as a one-cast with my previous installment of 57 performances. I shall share this pleasure with actors & actresses Hong Kwang-ho, Park Hye-na, Kang Hong-seok, and Jung Sun-ah; who created the stage together with me. I am accepting this award with praise and encouragement for C-JeS Culture and I promise that I shall go forward in creating a better work in the future ahead”.
The ‘3rd eDaily Culture Awards’ judging committee had given [the musical] a generous score, in regards to the points that it recreated the original Japanese work into a version for just Korea, took part in the diversity of a domestic musical –i.e., a one-cast of its cast of characters and 7 performances per week–, and corresponded to all judging standards –i,e., its cinematic quality and commercial success–. Its stage and musical numbers covered by the Korean actors’ prominent singing abilities and actings increased their strengths in the work, despite not making changes with the Japanese version.

[VIDEO + TRANS] 160218 KTV (Korean TV) News: Gone-to-the-army Kim Jaejoong & Park Yuchun, dominate No.1 & 2 spots on album chart

[Translated Transcript]
Kim Jaejoong and Park Yuchun have shown off their unabated popularity, while they are in the middle of their military services, too.
On a standard real-time album sales volume chart the past 15th, Kim Jaejoong and Park Yuchun had occupied the No.1 & 2 spots, respectively.
They have been staying in the upper ranks even up to now~
We think the fact that it was Park Yuchun’s first solo album, somehow, and there were the hot interests of domestic and foreign fans toward the two artists; are the secret of them conquering the upper rankings, despite being in middle of their military services.

Jaejoong Surprises with “NO.X”

Written by On February 15, 2016 20160215_seoulbeats_jaejoong_nox2Since Kim Jaejoong’s album release announcement at his farewell fanmeeting last year, fans have been waiting with bated breath for the singer’s sophomore full-length effort. After some confusion over the actual release date (before C-JeS clarified the album’s digital release was to precede the physical CD), NO.X has finally been unleashed on the world (slaying charts in its wake). My God, it was well worth the wait.
NO.X gives us a different side of the fluid artist, his sound being at once powerful and emotional, then becoming silken and deliberate. Unlike his first forays into rock, Jaejoong pushes his exploration of the genre a bit further. While I was his tentative steps into the genre (with a compact yet effective mixture of subgenres), and WWW was Jaejoong’s bolder exploration, giving us much more of his emotional and even self-indulgent side, NO.X takes a central sound — music that’s got more of a refined finish — and integrates much of his soul into its smoothness.
There are moments of such incredible vocal tenderness, it’s almost astonishing. Opening track “Good Morning Night” opens on a pure high note and carries that song’s higher register with ease, allowing fans and new listeners an opportunity to gauge his range from the album’s opening notes. These moments of crystal clear and fully open vocals work to bolster the richness of the compositions, and in turn each song’s construction gives height to the vocal.
No one can accuse Jaejoong of becoming vocally complacent, especially given the poppier slant to some of the music. While the constraints of pop don’t always allow for vocal sophistication, Jaejoong uses what he knows of both genres to push for fuller vocals and more chances at experimentation with his range. Tracks like the album’s second single, “Love You More,” are a bright spot in what can sometimes be heavy-handed bouts of overemotional cooing on the vocalist’s part.
That being said, there is certainly a fair amount of songs wrought with poignancy. Tracks like “Love You to Death,” “Drawer,” “Blame,” and “Although We Met Again, We Would Meet Again” all provide delicate compositions for Jaejoong to wrap his high tenor around, pushing all the power from his diaphragm, and giving us that lovely chest voice he’s known for. While the latter fits more on the OST-style balladry most Korean music tends to favor, his voice was seemingly made for the construction. Though musically the weakest track on the album, it still serves to highlight just how rich his voice can be.
However, the album is more heavily saturated with a varied musical palette. This turn for the more vocally diverse creates a surprising amount of clarity regarding Jaejoong’s capabilities as a singer. While songs like “Love You More” and “Do You Know?” provide listeners more soothing pop-rock, track “Good Luck” explores Jaejoong’s love of rock that errs closer to punk than pop. Though no one would ever confuse his sound with the Sex Pistols or The Ramones, and certainly not the kick-in-your-teeth rawness of his compatriots of DIEALRIGHT, there’s no denying Jaejoong manages to hold his own with songs with a harder edge, the growl in his high tenor giving the album an added layer of guttural texture to an otherwise pristine sound.
20160215_seoulbeats_jaejoong_nox3The album ends surprisingly. The vocal performance on “Run Away” is “thicker,” if you will. There’s a deeper soul and a less polished sound than what pervades the album. It’s emotional for sure, but there’s an eeriness to Jaejoong’s tone, as if a teardrop is nestled right at the cusp where throat meets mouth. It’s perhaps his most vocally evocative performance. We all know him for his wails and the emotional hiccup part in parcel to reaching a sometimes overexaggerated emotional peak. However, “Run Away” is… there’s something there I can’t quite put my finger on. A sparse composition houses the ache in his vocal. As the album’s shortest song, it neither builds nor stagnates. It’s simply a song for the sake of singing something, getting something out of the soul.
And the way it ends…. Though many would find fault in the abruptness, that sudden break in music leaves a sting and throb in your heart, as if you’ve felt the hurt in his voice, the need, held on to him at the waist as he walked through his sorrow and put voice to it only to be left gripping air, as he proclaims in the chorus, “Why is it when you made me love you, you just run away?”
It’s as if I was left suspended and yearning, just as he yearned, like he was leaving his imprint on me and I couldn’t quite remove the ache in my chest. The lyrics are proof enough that this is exactly what Jaejoong intended, a feeling of longing, of reaching out and being left trapped in limbo:

I called for you even when you left
It’s the end of the road
Even though we broke up, even if I let you go all the way
Because I cared for you I couldn’t let you go
That seems to be the overall feeling of the album: waiting, never letting go. He couldn’t have had much time to prepare this gift for his fans, but even in what was possibly great haste, he gathers a collection of songs that are at moments bright, then gritty, then again unbearably tender. Lyrically, Jaejoong has mastered the art of telling the tales of a forlorn lover. But with each story he weaves, he also becomes bolder in his songwriting: songs like “All That Glitters” where he’s a man beaten down but refusing to be “crazy for long,” even as his lover continues to punish him; or “Breathing,” where he expresses just the act of exhalation is a beautiful moment between lovers; or even the snarl in “Good Luck,” where he basically gives someone the finger, telling them he may not be a saint, but at least his conscious is clear (“even though I’m a little dirty, my integrity looks pretty like I just came out of a sauna”).
20160215_seoulbeats_jaejoong_nox5As usual, Jaejoong is very closely involved with this project, serving as the album’s producer, vocal arranger, and having written nine of the twelve tracks and composed two. Surprisingly quite a few European composers and musicians had a hand in the album’s construction. Considering the musical arc of the album, it’s not hard to believe. There’s a decidedly more polished sound to the pop-rock Jaejoong favors than on his previous projects. While one could argue some of the rawness may have taken a dip, there’s nothing to suggest any of the fullness of his sound was lost, the sleeker surface of each track’s construction befitting the prettiness and even further the range of Jaejoong’s voice.
NO.X, without a doubt, is Jaejoong’s most mature work to date. There’s the right amount of ache, the perfect amount of grit, and all the vocal brilliance one expects from the passionate singer. I’d go even so far to say he’s never sounded better. He achieves a rounder sound with every album he releases, and this seems to be Jaejoong at his apex, his most vocally superior. Truly a gorgeous piece of music, almost elegant in execution. If this is Jaejoong’s musical trajectory, I’m excited to see what he has in store for us when he returns.
Album Rating: 4.5/5

Album, Full Of Memories (그리운, 페이지를 넘기며..) (Piano By Yuhki Kuramoto)

[OTHER TWITTER] 160215 Fan account of Yuhki Kuramoto’s mini concert – played “Nostalgic, While Turning Over the Page…”

Yuhki Kuramoto mini concert, for the first song he played Yoochun’s album’s song.
He also talked a bit about Yoochun
Last year was requested saying it was a song with a nostalgic feel
Recieved Yuhki Kuramoto san’s (autograph) sign as well! (He said) that he knew about Yoochun from before! When said to him that Yoochun has said that he is a fan of Kuramoto san from before, he nodded un un (T/N: yes yes)
In Yuhki Kuramoto san’s mini concert usually starts off with a performance but today started with talk. Song with a nostalgic feel to it and last year received a request from Korea’s famous idol, as he said that there was a big applause! Today’s mini concert, out of 100 people, maybe 20~30% were Yoochun fan← personal observation w
Yuhki Kuramoto san, today performed 6 songs. Though in the beginning talk he spoke of Korea’s famous idol, in the later talk, right now JYJ Yoochun’s, he even spoke out his name, it was album’s introduction song or had a role like an intro, album’s title also changed a bit. But it is the story with a wonderful content of a Father’s love (he said)

JYJ’s Return to Variety TV in Harvest Trip

Written by On February 12, 2016
JYJ just wrapped up their first foray into the20160209_seoulbeats_JYJ1 “real variety” genre with their series Harvest Trip featuring all three members on a pseudo 1-night, 2-day camping trip. The five-episode series was broadcast on NAVER’s tvcast and follows members Jaejoong, Yoochun and Junsu as they travel, cook and play games.
Originally filmed for a fan DVD release, the group went on the trip in March, 2014 before members Jaejoong and Yoochun began their army service in March and August, respectively. The vacation was an opportunity for the group to spend time together before Jaejoong’s impending enlistment, and the episodes are full of the funny, cute moments we’ve come to expect from idol variety shows. The group decided to share highlights from the getaway with fans through the tvcast episodes as a preview for their upcoming DVD.
In episode one, we meet the members as they hear about the trip for the first time and joke about what they’d like to do; episode two covers a wood chopping competition to decide who will catch chickens for lunch; episode three is a Jenga challenge over clean-up duties; in episode four the three members sing to impress crew members and avoid sleeping outdoors. Though funny, the first four episodes are somewhat narratively disjointed – jumping from preparing for lunch at the end of episode two to playing games to decide who does the dishes at the beginning of episode three. Luckily, episode five covers moments from the entire trip, helping fill in the story between episodes: showing the members as they comically navigate the Seoul subway, cook lunch with chickens they caught themselves and talk about the hardships they faced over the years.

The series was released on the heels of Junsu’s recent issues at the 25th Seoul Music Awards in mid-January. Despite winning the most popular musician award based on fan votes, Junsu was not invited to attend the event which was broadcast on KBS, one of South Korea’s terrestrial networks. While organizers claimed that Junsu was excluded in an attempt to keep down the number of award presentations during the ceremony, the explanation did little to settle the issue.
Outrage from fans and voters, who had to pay to participate in the voting, reignited discussion over the JYJ broadcast ban – since JYJ’s separation from their previous label SM Entertainment, the group has been unable to carry out any music or entertainment promotions on the three main South Korean terrestrial networks (MBC, SBS and KBS), due to SM’s influence. Even after the lawsuits between the group and the label were settled in 2012, JYJ continued to be shut out from weekly music shows, variety shows and year-end music festivals. The group’s predicament even prompted the passage of the “JYJ Law” in December, which prohibits broadcast networks from keeping individuals or groups off-air due to external interference. After the latest incident, Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon weighed in, calling the explanation “unconvincing.” He threatened to pull the city’s sponsorship of the awards if the situation were to occur again.
Given this history, it’s no wonder that the JYJ members appeared at times awkward and excited at receiving variety idol treatment again during their tvcast series. Several times in the first episode the members mentioned being unfamiliar with making broadcast-caliber reactions and teased each other for overreacting in front of the cameras. In later episodes the members would repeatedly ask for clarifications or look for approval from the filming crew over standard variety show games, and were clearly thrilled at being treated like any other idol. Even when Junsu appeared on public broadcast channel EBS’s Space Sympathy as part of his “Flower” promotions last April, he cried at the opportunity to perform on a music show for the first time in years.
What is clear from these incidents and 20160209_seoulbeats_junsuappearances is that there is a great demand for JYJ content – each of the Harvest Trip episodes have more than 100,000 views each on both tvcast and the V-Live app. The group’s management company also releases content through YouTube, but appears to be better leveraging newer platforms such as the V-Live app and tvcast to overcome the broadcast ban. In addition to the Harvest Trip content, C-JeS also recently posted behind the scenes videos from Junsu’s musical Dracula and video of him looking through fan mail. Over on the V app, Junsu hosted a live chat in January to celebrate his Seoul Music Awards win and trophy with his fans, since he was unable to attend the ceremony.
With likely more such platforms for idol-related content on the rise, and a greater diversity of options for JYJ to connect with their fans outside of the broadcast networks, it may be possible that by the time all the members are back from army service in two years (Junsu is the only member currently promoting and he will likely enlist later this year) the lack of broadcast appearances may be a problem of the past.
What do you think readers? With the changes in the past year, can JYJ finally make in-roads to promote on broadcast channels? Or will the broadcast ban become obsolete with changing technology?
